Balatonmáriafürdő Welcomes You!

Dear Our Guest,

I highly welcome you to the homepage of Balatonmáriafürdő.

The history of our settlement began at the end of the 19th century. The broke wine-growers of the northern shore got the opportunity to recommence. As a result of the founders’ hard work, at first smaller wine-cellars then houses were built next to the wine plantations. A permanently inhabited settlement was formed, Máriatelep. It received its name of Maria Andrassy, count Imre Széchenyi’s wife.

It adopted its present-day name and communal rank in 1927. In one of the most popular holiday resorts, in Balatonmáriafürdő, there are not wine plantations any more, but besides permanently inhabited houses there are more and more guest houses of a high standard, holiday houses and services that are connected with them and that are necessary for relaxation and recreation. On the nearly eight km long shore sector eight beaches are available for those desire some rest in natural surroundings with a wonderful view. The intimate restaurants and summer programmes of a high standard offer pleasant relaxation to our guests staying here. Our settlement is more and more popular among families with children due to the shallow-watered beaches. The Balaton cycle path leads through our village.

Thanks to the good traffic network, nice trips can be made to the nearby settlements form Balatonmáriafürdő. Spas: Marcali, Zalakaros, Hévíz. The watery habitat of the Small Balaton – well-known in Europe – can also be found in the neighbourhood. You can spend a whole day in the nearby Keszthely and can make a trip by ship to the northern shore, to Szigliget or Badacsony. You can travel by narrow-gauge railway from Balatonfenyves to the marshy pasture of Nagyberek. On a walking tour you can visit the protected row of cellars on Bokrosi hill in Keresztúr and taste the nice wine produced there. Balatonmáriafürdő is a hospitable settlement. People who live here expect those coming to us.

I hope, you and your family will come and see our village soon and can feel our hospitality personally.

Yours ever,

György Galácz
Mayor of Balatonmáriafürdő
